Thin connections and patient pages

Malaysian connections are a spectrum: fibre in the cities, 4G on the roads, something thinner in the interior. A magazine that only works at fibre speed is a magazine for half a country.

So pages here are built patient. The cover grid loads before any script runs. Nothing above the fold waits on a web font that may never arrive. The game itself is told to hold its traffic until you ask for it.

On a thin connection the first screen of any page arrives in about one second, and the play button always works before the comments of the world finish loading. There are no comments. That helps too.
